Apocalypse Now? A Bible Study: Session IV

End times. Apocalypse. The second coming of Christ - these have been some of Google's most popular search terms for the last few years. But, what do any of these words actually mean, and what importance do they have for our faith? Let’s look together at what "apocalypse" is in the Bible, what it's come to mean today, and what it might teach us about ourselves in this historical moment. We'll look at two key books from scripture along the way – Daniel and Revelation – along with a variety of cultural sources that invite us to imagine the “end.”

In fourth session of this series, we will gather at Sue Westmoreland’s house at 6pm to read an excerpt from Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, pages 2-21. Copies of the text will be provided! Then we will discuss:

  • Laura has a great truth that she keeps secret. The character Daniel in the Book of Daniel also describes keeping his visions secret. Have you ever had to hold a deep truth all on your own?

  • Octavia Butler wrote Parable in 1993. In what ways does her vision of life in 2024 resonate with you?

You can email tony.coleman@firstcongo.com for Sue’s address. See you there!
